OUR PHILOSOPHY

• Our Accountability is to battered victims and to those who work for them

• Our Goal:  to prevent further victimization - the primary client is the victim as well as the community.

• We view the batterer as secondary client, a serious, violent offender who has committed criminal behavior.

• Treatment is the psychology of accountability - offenders make moral choices based on their ethics and values and to abuse is a free choice.

• Psychological, psychiatric, or social rationales are no excuse.

• One's behaviors, emotions, and thinking patterns are one's own responsibility. Change in  these behaviors and pattern takes  time.

• Our clients are free moral agents - our approach is tough, factual, and humanized.

• Often we attempt to understand the abuser from the assumption the offender views the world as we do.

• Key is to understand that senseless abuse makes sense to the abuser.

Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP) is a program for men who abuse women.  It is a 22 to 52 week program that has as its focus the cessation of all forms of violent behavior including physical, verbal, sexual and emotional abuse.

Intervention includes assisting participants to confront those values, beliefs, and attitudes which they hold that are abusive to women.

The Batterer's Intervention Program seeks to:

• Hold abusers accountable to their victims
• Assist him to identify and end aggressive and controlling behaviors
• Be supportive of the process for change.

Women Who Use Force (WWUF)  is a 12-week, court-ordered group for women who have used violence in their relationships.  The majority of these referrals have been or are currently in a relationship that is abusive.  The main goal of the program is to have each woman examine and explore:

• The dynamics and effect abuse has upon her and all members of the family.
• Her ability to set boundaries and safely communicate her needs.
• The elements of a healthy relationship.
