ARCS provides CONFIDENTIAL and FREE Legal Advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking to help clients make the best informed decisions. The purpose of legal advocacy is to act as a liaison and personal advocate for survivors as they navigate through the criminal justice and civil court systems. Acting as a liaison and a personal advocate means explaining to survivors the meaning of unfamiliar legal terms, informing survivors of what can be expected in the legal process, and advocating for certain actions or responses with the Judge, Magistrate, Prosecutor, Law Enforcement, and other support and social agencies.
Services include the accompaniment of clients to court, the police station, meetings with legal aid or a private attorney, and safety planning. In addition, Legal Advocates provide assistance in filing the following documents: applications for Crime Victims’ Compensation, Victim Impact Statements for sentencing, and applications for Civil Protection Orders.
